UMA

A lounge chair by Kevin Hviid Studio

Some objects ask for attention. Others command it.

UMA is a lounge chair defined by presence. A sculptural form shaped by sweeping curves and generous volumes, upholstered in deep aubergine chenille by Pierre Frey.

At its core, UMA explores reduction. The chair is distilled to its most essential gesture: a half-moon base supporting a generous seat, while a cylindrical backrest folds seamlessly into the silhouette. No visible legs. No decorative details. No unnecessary elements. Every line serves the whole.

Balancing furniture and object, UMA combines the comfort of a lounge chair with the clarity of a sculptural piece.

"The ambition was to create something calm but impossible to ignore."

— Kevin Hviid

Materiality plays a defining role in the chair's character. Pierre Frey's Igor chenille brings depth, softness and tactility to the form, enriching the experience of both touch and sight.

Presented as a prototype during 3 Days of Design 2026, UMA reflects an exploration of furniture as presence — expressed not through excess, but through confidence in form, material and proportion.

The result is a chair that feels both immediate and enduring.

A place to sit. An object to return to.
